Photowalk #7

This is the Staten Island  9/11 Memorial dedicated to those who lost their lives from the terrorist attacks on the New York City World Trade Center in 2001.  The following posts will show you various angles from which I shot this touching Memorial so as to portray the magnitude of this tribute.  All of these shots were taken on the 2010 Scott Kelby World Wide Photowalk.     http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staten_Island_September_11_Memorial

On Staten Island there is a beautiful  9/11  Memorial dedicated to the victims that lost their lives on that horrific day.  In order to honor the individual lives lost, the  designer  provided  that each Staten Island victim be honored with a 9″ x11” granite plaque that will bear their name, birth date and place of work on September 11, 2001 as well as their profile in silhouette.     http://www.statenislandusa.com/pages/memorial.html  I attempted to just catch a somber glimpse of what the inner granite walls look like.

While walking along the edge of the water I noticed a enormous amount of garbage, plastic, bottles, tires  and of course some wooden planks.  This one caught my eye because of the bright colors of the rope.  I think we need some volunteers to clean up the river banks.

I took this image during our walk and thought it looked pretty neat.  I used a polarizer on my lens but really didn’t see too much effect as the sun was not at a right angle.  But as you can see it did have an effect.  The location was on Staten Island,  NY taken while walking from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal towards our final destination.  Processed in Lightroom and PSE-7.

“2010 Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk”

Posted in Uncategorized on July 25, 2010 by Edmund

Karen (kslbear) and I teamed up on Scott Kelby’s Walk and joined a walk in Staten Island,  NY.  The weather was hovering around a blistering 100 degrees.   Any way we walked around 2 plus miles and survived.  Karen’s husband Larry joined us for the fun.  After the walk we all joined for a nice lunch and refreshments ( Wild Turkey).  Here is a link for our walk.http://worldwidephotowalk.com/walk/staten-island-ny-usa-staten-island-ferry-terminal/

This old building was surrounded by a chain link fence but the gate was open and one could sneak in a take a quick photo.  You could not walk around the building because it was overgrown with shrubs and trees.  I stepped through the gate a few feet and took three shots with my wide angle lens.  It would be interesting to know the history of the old abandoned building. Processed in Lightroom and Topaz Adjust.
